At first glance, this site appeared to have a gentle slope, but it wasn’t until we obtained detailed site contours that our team was able to properly understand the land and begin customising a design that would best suit the block.
The clients were presented with two different design options to address the slope. Ultimately, they chose a split-level design, which not only worked well with the site but also created the opportunity for an impressive 3.7 m ceiling at the entry. Sometimes the real advantages of a sloping block are only discovered during the design stage.
A key part of the client brief was to incorporate a large void area that would create a strong “wow factor” within the home. At the same time, the design carefully considered orientation, with the placement of external walls and windows planned to optimise comfort and natural light. Windows were minimised on the western side while being maximised to the north and south.
